The opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics was held in London on 27 July 2012 and was called The Isles of Wonder. Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle was the artistic director for the opening ceremony and the music directors were Rick Smith and Karl Hyde of the electronic music duo Underworld.
The Games were officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II, who was accompanied by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
A comedic short film starring Daniel Craig as secret agent James Bond and Queen Elizabeth II was screened during the television coverage of the ceremony.
